The Ford Anglia (as it was known in the USA) became popular as a drag racing car in the 1960s when people started drag racing them due to their lightweight construction and the fact that due to them not being particularly desirable in the USA there were plenty piled up in the junk yards.

In the UK we know it as the Ford "Pop" and it became the definitive British hot rod. Yet the UK drag racing series featuring the sit up and beg body shape is called Outlaw Anglia.
